Datapac 5 is the latest release in our line of Datapac software and hardware systems for data acquisition, processing, analysis, and experimental control. Like its predecessors, Datapac 5 is an interactive, menu-driven application that requires no programming skills or other special training to operate. Yet at the same time it provides the power and flexibility needed to satisfy demanding users across a broad spectrum of applications from membrane biophysics to the movement sciences. Datapac 5 is composed of a series of tightly integrated, interactive, and fully functional modules that are menu operated and easy to configure to the users exact needs. Each module is designed to address specific tasks over a broad range of applications -- from gait analysis to biomechanics, cardiopulmonary function to single channel studies, extracellular to intracellular analysis, and beyond. Individual modules can be purchased as required and added as needed, allowing each user to tailor the system to their particular needs economically and without sacrificing future expansion potential.

Datapac 5 is packed with new and enhanced features, but one thing that truly sets it apart from earlier versions is its ability to handle many files in a single operation! We do this by allowing the user to assemble File Lists. File lists can be assembled automatically during acquisition within Datapac 5 or when you import files from another source. Files can also be added, removed, or resequenced any time thereafter. Once a file list is assembled, all its members can be processed and analyzed almost as if they were one file. Using file lists substantially reduces the time and effort required to produce results while greatly simplifying the process and minimizing errors along the way. |

Datapac 5 also introduces more powerful and more intuitive Video Capture and Playback features. Video from a standard, off-the-shelf DV mini-camcorder can be acquired in stand-alone (video only) fashion, or easily synchronized with analog inputs such as EMG, EEG, force plates, etc. Enhanced controls let you infinitely adjust the size of the video display as well as its brightness, contrast and saturation. Additional controls include slow motion, fast motion, regular time and forward and reverse frame-by-frame playback. Datapac 5's 2D Motion Analysis capabilities have also been simplified and enhanced, providing for smoother, more intuitive operation. Users with previous experience with other optically based motion analysis systems, such as Peak Motus and Simi, tell us that Datapac 5 is both easier to use and faster to obtain results. The image to the left shows a stick figure stabilized in space with our stability feature superimposed on the original video record. |

Another unique new feature in Datapac 5 is the Comparison Feature, which allows ability to display the contents of two different files side-by-side. Analog and derived kinematic data from two different files can be displayed in the same window. Video data from the two files can be viewed in side-by-side images. And the time relationships between the two can be synchronized to any time point desired in each file. It is thus possible to time-synchronize even spontaneously occurring episodes within two files. This ability is especially useful for qualitative comparisons of pre-post training or treatments and providing feedback to subjects. |
